it will cost you $100 in tools from harbor freight, if no garage rent a u-storage locker $100 for a month.

I was in the same situation two years ago with my 2002 Disco and opted to try a product called Irontight. I am in no way affiliated with the company or product but tried it thinking what do I have to loose? You can only buy it online through the manufacturer or call them to order I think all 3 bottles were $50.00 ... use a search engine to find more info. What I can say is I followed the instructions EXACTLY as they spell it out and two years later and 20K plus miles later it is still running strong! I bought their package of 3 bottles and it so far it has done the trick. I know lots of people will bad mouth this approach but I can say at least in my case it worked great. No engine codes and all is well in Disco land here. By the way my Disco is a 2002 with over 200K miles and still drives and performs great.
Hope this helps
PS use the search feature on this web site to find more info. and threads on Irontight ... also Bing and Google might be helpful.

Here is the thread I used when I decided to use Irontight ... Mike

I've never worked on head gaskets myself, but this all has me a little confused.

It seems as a first step before deciding to replace the block, you'd have to take off the heads. If you see there's a clear failure of the head gasket, then that could be your culprit and you just replace the gaskets. If there's a crack in the block, then you're likely looking at a new engine. If the heads are warped, you'll have to get them machined. I've never heard of a Disco block being warped—it's not aluminum, right?

This is based on what I've heard/read, though. So don't take it as gospel. I just don't get why you'd think about replacing the whole engine before taking off the heads.

yes; remove the heads and hope for an obvious problem with the head gasket.

the heads should be milled no matter what.

disco block is aluminum and like two hot pieces of anything bolted together that are heated and cooled they will wrap.

because you can do head gaskets for under $400 and a used engine is $1500 and rebuilt are $5k

next step is up to you

Well, happy to report that it was just a blown gasket after all. After trading a few text's with MLN01, in which he recommended a few local shops, I decided to let the professionals take a look. The mechanic at the recommended shop tested the heads and they were fine, no warping on those nor the block. I guess the last time I had the HG done, the shop didn't mill too much off. Total bill $2,164 (located in Charlotte NC). Had them grease up my driveshaft and suspension fittings while there were at it, but happy to report its back on the road and they said she drives beautifully.

Thank you for all of the feedback and suggestions.

Sincerely,
