Okay. I think i just stumbled onto something that actually makes sense but is prolly too easy to be it... But it fits the situation! Apparently by design if you engage the cdl while the engine is off it automatically disables your tc when you start the vehicle. It's a long shot I know.. But is it possible the previous owner left cdl on and you just don't know it because obviously your year model has no cdl lever? Maybe you should make sure your cdl is off. If this is it I expect a 50 dollar check in the mail!! haha

"The Discovery is configured so that if the diff' lock is engaged, while the engine is not running, the traction control will disable. This means that the vehicle can be operated with traction control, or with centre diff' lock engaged and no traction control or, by engaging diff' lock with the engine running, with both centre diff' lock and traction control. This last option is presumably in contradiction to Land Rover's intent. The diff' lock kit simply eliminates the need to crawl under the car and engage the diff' lock by means of a spanner on the end of the engagement shaft."

 

That lights up the 3 amigos though (when you engage the CDL) and also of course the CDL warning light.

 

I just remembered my land rover tech (owns Columbia Rover) was able to turn the TC light on manually with his scanner...

 

Okay let's go back to the
basics of the problem.. The abs and tc light do not
self check when the key is turned on... That's the problem. Just got to find out why.. Yeah the scanner can force bulb checks... Hmmm..

Do you think a bad ABS module would cause TC and ABS lights to not come on at startup?

That link says this... "The SLABS ECU is the Brains behind all of the vehicle Anti-Lock Braking operations."

and this... "The SLABS ECU also manages all of the Traction Control Operations of the vehicle."

I'm wondering if it's anything to do with the slabs ECU.

 

It could. ABS controls the TC. That is all it is. It uses the ABS wheel speed sensors to determine traction loss and applies ABS braking to that wheel to put traction on the others.

Like I said, have the TC system scanned. You may find there is a member with an ABS amigo that can read your ABS codes if you have any so you don''t have to pay the $50 at an Indy shop.

 

Michael, the slabs ecu is the abs module. Slabs ecu = self-leveling/anti-lock brake system ecu

 

Ok let's clarify this... When I google ABS module for Discovery, some sites are referring to a $500 electronic control unit. But other sites are referring to about a $4000 unit where the brake fluid is pumped. When you guys are referring to the ABS module what one are you talking about?

 

The $4K one is the ABS modulator with the valves that all of the lines run to, the $500 one is the SLABS brain. That is the one that has the computer inside it that will need to be read.

 

The one in question is located under your left seat I believe...
