Default Disco II - Trouble shifting out of Park

I've had my Discovery for 7 years and over the last couple months, I've been having trouble shifting out of park. Usually a couple shakes (Up & Down) of the shifter will free it up. However there's been times where it'll take 10 minutes to playing with the shifter until it moves out of park. Once out of park it's fine. Has anyone run into this and what's the common fix?

Many Thanks.

Check and see if you have brake lights, if you don't, your brake light switch is broken causing you to not shift from park.

most likely a failing brake switch,,,

5 min fix and cost to you is about $20.

look under the dash where the brake peddle pivots. you will see a black switch made from plastic and about 3 inches long. it is held to the dash by a 1/4" turn and a small wire harness.

take old one out and pop the new one it. easy
