Default Disco Newbie. Need brake help!

My wife and I just bought a 1996 Discovery a few days ago. We went and had it checked out by a mechanic before we bought it and there were no major issues. We put a new battery in it and just put new tires on it. Today when my wife was leaving the house she said the brakes just stopped working and there was a pulse in the brake pedal. All of this happened going down our driveway, house sits on a hill. I got in and test drove it and everything seemed fine no lights ever came on. Any ideas on the problem? I dont want this to happen again going down the road. Thanks

Sounds like the anti lock brakes kicking in. Was the driveway wet or slippery?

Its your ABS. Since
you had the wheel off to change tires your sensors may have been bumped around........ If you dont want this to ever happen again ,, The Spike Solution ,,will quarantee that it doesnt..

The ABS on DI's are notoriously bad.. Especially if one brake is grabbing more than the others. The ABS does not pulse only the brake that is locking up, it pulses them all, and makes a little whining sound you can hear in the cab. I think they are DANGEROUS!! Open the hood look on the passenger side, open the fusebox, look at the diagram on the fusebox cover, find the one marked ABS and remove it. This will solve your problem. Then service the braked, one wheel is probably grabbing more than the other. This was happening to me and as it turns out I had one bad piston on my drivers side front caliper.
She probably got one wheel in the grass or gravel on the way down the hill

Im not sure what he is referring to here.. The fuse for the ABS is in the fusebox on the passenger side, in the engine bay.

There is also a fuse under the dash, but if you are going to permanently disable your ABS like I did then remove the one under the hood.
That is the main fuse, the one under the dash is the secondary fuse and also controls other stuff if I remember right.

discolucy-if you want to fix the ABS it is very expensive depending on what is wrong, each wheel speed sensor is about $400 plus labor.
The ABS modulator is around $1500 plus labor.
Have it looked at, like it was already mentioned it might just be a loose wheel speed sensor.
