Default Disco stalling out... Need help!

So this is the situation, my 03 Disco is starting up fine in the morning. I drive about 1-1.5 miles and the truck stalls out. When I try to start it again it turns over fine. It just wont start. About 30-45 minutes later it will start right back up again. Then after 20 minutes idling or another 1-1.5 miles of driving it dies again. Seems like this is an endless cycle. It was a little low on oil when this happend the first time, as i had just gotten back from a road trip and was heading out to get the oil changed. My oil light did come on AFTER the first stall, but was extinguised with a quart or 2 top off. i though maybe it was the fuel p[ump, but after replacing that and the gasket last night, i discovered that was not the problem. Started up, idled for 20 minutes and died. I am at a total loss right now. Can anyone help?

The most likely suspect...

Does your tachometer move when you crank the engine?

Yup, bad crank sensor, this is classic signs of it.
It gets hot and fails, it cools and works again.
You can get it locally so call around.

Well i don't know if i can afford to take that bet... let me check my wallet.

So I do have another question, how is the replacement done? Is it an easy pull and replace or is there more to it? Is there any other things it may be? I know the tach does work when it's running, does that make a difference? I ask because you guys asked if the tack moved when it was turned over.

If your crank position sensor has failed then the tach does not move when it will not start. It's a simple swap, 2 bolts, 2 nuts, one plug and some bitching.

Yes it is a simple R&R.
Looking at the engine in the 3 o'clock position at the back of the engine.

Default Thank you again!

Well thank you guys again. I'll be replacing the sensor as soon as I can get up there. Probably next weekend, but i'll let you know if that was it. I appreciate the help a ton, and knowing my Disco... i'll be asking for help again. Can't tell you why I love her so much when I have to stick so much time and money into her.
