Exclamation Disco2 not starting, anyone in thw Sheboygan, WI area that wants to help?

I parked my 99 Discovery 2 up in the woods at my house a couple months ago. Tried starting it later and wouldn't start. I crawled under the truck to look at the starter and the wire going to the starter had pulled off the little tab. I reattached it but still nothing. Key turns on normal lights on dash, can here the relay clicking when key is turned and hazards turn on. I moved relays around so don't think it's the relay.

I think its probly the starter but since the wire was pulled off, just curious of any other suggestions before I replace the starter... Wondering if I can use a jumper cable or something like that and attach it from the battery to touch the starter to at least see if the starter is the issue...

I replaced the battery.

Any thoughts or people local to Sheboygan that wants to come by and help?

Thanks

Yes you can try jumping directly to the battery. I would first try jumping from a known good vehicle the normal way. My first suspicion is that both your batteries are poor.

Jumping from know good is the ticket as the next step. If you want a diagnostic step, check the voltage across the battery terminals while cranking. Below 9.6v is a no-go for sure. I have seen bad batteries read fine under accessory load, but when you crank they drop out.

I’ve had a battery that read 12.5 volts but could hardly light the dash lights, let alone turn a starter motor.

I had this happen 11 months ago. Since I don't drive Redrover very often I keep it on a battery maintainer in the garage, but like harvlr said, a battery can show good voltage but not have the amps to do anything. The battery in my truck read 13.85 volts on the multimeter!

Here's the link to my thread from last year on the topic, in which Richard Gallant and harvlr solved the problem.
