Disconnected battery
I disconnected my battery and removed it to do my head gasket job and clean everything . Is this the wrong thing? I remembered reading something about disconnecting the negative only? Or was that a dream?
I saw the post about a battery that was out for months and the ECU had to relearn everything?
If it is out for awhile does it throw up some codes until learning is over? I have looked for this info but can''t find it anywhere.
Started HG job last night going slow but not bad so far.

As far as the ECU re-learning everything, this is not such a bad thing. I used to do a "Hard Reset" to my Jaguar every once in a while when things were acting up. It would clear up MANY issues we had with the Jaguars. Windows not working quite right, Sunroof not working, Rough Idle, and many other electrical issues. Not just the ECU, but BCM, TCM, etc... It effectively clears the Memory. It's kinda like when your personal computer starts acting up, sometimes the best thing is to reset it again.
After replacing the battery, IF the ECU has lost it's memory, expect it to run strange for a couple minutes until it resets things. On the Jaguar, it took about 1 minute for it to reset the Throttle Position Sensor and Throttle Body, so it would idle high and low for a bit. It also re-learned the Adaptive Electronic Steering and Transmission Shifting. All of this took a few days to learn again.
I just did a "Hard Reset" to my Discovery today, but have not had a chance to drive it yet to see if it made any difference. I don't have a stock radio, so I didn't have to deal with the security code if it came up.

I wish rebooting would stop leaks I wondered if there would be some things run better or worse for awhile.
I have an after market radio in the 99 so it won't be a problem Just have to reset stations.
The 04 has a code issue I hope to be able to resolve this weekend. I bought the 04 to doll it up a bit and drive it like a grocery getter. Right now it gets 86 miles a day to work and back. Boring with out a radio.
