No, that's OK. Just make sure she is grounded well. Or the spark plug may not fire.

Got the old sensor out but could not fit the new sensor to the connector. Dont see how its possible cause the connector is up behind the metal harness thing there and you cant very well grab ahold of the connector all awhile using your second hand to plug in the new sensor to it - just no room to use your second hand up there. I removed the three bolts securing the exhaust pipe to see if I could get more room but no luck there, still right in my way. Tried removing that metal harness thing up there but the bolt/nut (whatever it is) started stripped so I left it alone. If only the connecter cable was an inch or so longer that I would be able to grab ahold of it, pull it down past the metal harness enough to use my second hand to plug in the new sensor, then push it back up and secure it in place. What a pain in the ***. Took 1.5 hours to removed old sensor and over 2 hours attempting to plug in the new sensor.

The cover itself had a crack in it so Im gonna replace that. Ended up getting super pissed and chucking the new sensor, cover, spacers, nuts and screws....... kinda have a bad tempter sometimes. Contacted Paul Grant so hopefully hes got some on his shelf. But gotta order yet another new sensor.... Once I get the new parts Im just gonna have a shop instal it. I figure I already got the old one out so theres have the labor already done.

 

You have to detach the plug that's clipped to the back of the engine so it's swinging free. Then I bought a pair of extended needle nose pliers to hold one side while I plugged the other one in. I think they were 12" pliers, and I've used them several times on this truck. Mine have the 45° bend, but the angle isn't crucial, and in fact straight might be best.

I call them my land rover pliers.

The cps is very frustrating. It's in a horrible location. Did you check the fuel pump relay? After I switched my cps and the truck still didn't start, that's when I found the relay.

 

Good to know, to bad no one mentioned anything about the extended needle noise pliers earlier cause I would have purchased a pair. By the time I got the new sensor and dielectric grease, I was broke anyways. I did try using a standard needle noise pliers but it was to short so I could not get enough grip on it. But I did lose the connector from the metal harness so it moves around freely. But again no luck.

Ill check the relays and other potential causes after. I NEED a new sensor now anyways so might as well get the job finished up, if it dont work then Ill look into other options.

Thanks for the tip though. Will have to get a pair of those extended pliers sometime.

 

Yeah, I haven't seen anybody else mention the long pliers. I bought them after struggling to install the cps. As I recall, I had the cps installed 5 mins after I got home with the pliers.
