Default Discovery 2 - Aluminum Overflow Tank

Just installed the Coolant Overflow Tank. After 3 expansion/coolant tanks cracking at about 3 month intervals. Glad this came to market!

Purchased on Amazon: (Happens to be from Lucky8)

Proper Spec Discovery 2 Aluminum COOLANT Overflow Reservoir Bottle Tank Land Rover
Amazon Amazon

the radiator cap is a 16psi. It looks rebuildable...

Update: Radiator CAP can be replaced by a "Duralast radiator cap #7520" from an autoparts store.

They did the math o.O. It fits juuuuust right

Yea it’s slightly smaller than the oem type one. But the quality is solid (pun intended).

Looks good! That tank will be my next big purchase for my Disco 2! Great quality and price!
It is fab'd by forum member @abran for his company CARRS4x4 in Cali.

I've been looking into one of those myself. I didn't realize the sight glass was so obscured by the battery cover. Can you still see the level easily?

I'm only asking this here given the OPs opening statement

Why is the plastic tank cracking? My D2 has 217k miles on the original tank so I'm just curious what you experienced.

Nice write up @Seattled2 , thank you for your support!

@Jason Feuerstein , the sight glass could have been put on the side of the tank but we wanted to be able to lift the hood and instantly see the level. Since you are looking at a downward angle you see the level without obstruction.

@NewToTheTwo the original tanks were made with a fiber embedded plastic which did last a long time but are now starting to fail. After market and genuine new tanks are made from a different plastic and are failing in months.

and finally, @JUKE179r thank you for the tag and support!

happy New Year’s Eve! Be safe everybody.

I don’t think to many people have tanks cracking. You may have other issues

@Jason Feuerstein - the first pic is me standing in front as if you had the hood popped. It’s easily visible

@abran Awesome product! I might order an extra cap for 10yeaea down the road. But the cap looks like it could be replaced with another generic 16psi cap internally?

not to derail my own thread, you guys got a full Aluminum Radiator (metal endtanks) in the works by chance? 😬. That’s the next part coming up.

happy New Years!

I'm still kicking myself in the (_!_) for not ordering the Trio (T, Y, and tank) during the Black Friday Special!!! I didn't have any $$$ then, but of coarse after Christmas I got some....

No radiator. We are a small operation and storage on those alone would hurt us.

Happy New Year!
