Discovery 2 Head gasket overhaul
I had my head gaskets done a while back for, holy ****, $500 labor plus $350 for valves and heads shaved, plus another ~$100 for the head gaskets. I also helped the guy, so I know how to do it now for myself. That is, of course, the exception and not the rule. None the less, 3k sounds steep. Find a guy who has done head gaskets on a Discovery before, not just any old shop.
As for the Magnecor wires, I definitely recommend the 8mm wires. Personally I wouldn't buy Magnecor because of the cost. I got the 8mm STIs from British Parts Utah.
Part: Land Range Rover Discovery STI Ignition Wire Set

I wouldn't say the 8mm wires made a HUGE difference (compared to a brand new 7mm set), but it was plenty noticable. I haven't checked gas mileage yet, but I know guys who have gotten an extra MPG or two out of them.

16 hours is a fair number it will take almost two days from begining to end. i would also suggest you check kingborne 8mm wires 1/3 of the cost of magnacore.

Quick update:
The head overhaul was completed. Cost was $3200 labor and materials. Took 5 days. My mechanic included a loaner car at no charge which to me counts for something.
The work is warranteed for one year. Is there anything I should be checking to make sure the job was done right?
Thanks
Al
