Discovery 200TDI, Rear Axle /Diff, Noise and play of Half shaft one side Only
Hi all,
I have a problem with the rear axle , axle covered about 175,000miles
Lots of play on on near side Rear wheel, ( its not the wheel wobble you get from wheel bearing )
Its rotational play , about 3-4 inches before diff takes up,
Quite a bit of clicking , metalic noise from diff area,
The vehicle still drives Ok,
Yet the off side wheel there is minimal play....and no noise
I have not investigated any more than jacking wheels of ground,
I want to get some advice and be prepared.....
Any help and advice greatfully received, Thanks.........

Sounds like you may be driving on a gernaded diff that is refusing to die.
May want to drain the oil and look for metal.

You better drain the diff and inspect for metal, I still believ you blew your diff, not a axle problem.

Get back to us when someone has had a chance to check it.
By the way, yes you can drive on the front diff if you lock your t/case.
