Default Discovery II engine rebuild update

Hi everybody....Update on 2001 Discovery II Bosch 4.0 liter engine rebuild. May 23 2018 started engine.

-Engine started in 12 seconds. Lifters quieted 15 seconds later. Oil press 48psi/35psi hot idle. Drove 5 miles.
-Day 2 May 24.....Drove vehicle 55 miles. Oil pressure 45psi/hot idle 25psi. Dash temp gauge stayed at middle

Three questions....

1) What is actual coolant temp when gauge is at half mark? I noticed the cooling fan came on (semi hot day and
didn't use A/C. I have cheapie new white thermostat 180 degree. Installed RED coolant (OAT tech per Rave).

2) I installed 6.7quarts oil, yet, Rave says something like 7.3quarts. Why is the dipstick reading past the full
mark?

3) At 15-20 miles of driving. Service engine light came on. DTC PO 0441. Purge valve? Or?
Engine sounds great! I'm going to pamper it the first 500 miles. Feel free to ask questions regarding your project.

Thanks for any input. Happy driving.

For $5 on ebay or Amazon you can buy an ELM327 which plugs into your OBD2 port and transmits via Bluetooth to your smartphone.

There are several apps that will talk to that ELM327 and show you your actual coolant temperature.

Without talking to the OBD2, you are just limited to your coolant temp dash gauge where middle of the range seems to be steady from 170F to 210F. Above 210F the needle moves higher than half. Below 170F the needles moves down under half.

Switch to the green coolant when you change your cheap white thermostat to the gray or black 180 degree thermostat. I believe the white ones are Motorad and are known to have a high failure rate.

If the A/C is off the electric fan comes on at 210 degrees.

And definitely get an app or the UltraGauge to read actual coolant temps.

The dash gauge is fairly useless.

You have too much oil in the engine. The spec is 6.1 quarts with the proper filter like a Purolator L14670. Since you have a fresh engine you may need up to a pint of additional oil on the first fill, then 6.1 quarts with an oil and filter maintenance.

Trust the dipstick.

A little low on oil is better than a little over, maybe drain some out. Def get a temp monitor device, the needle is worse than useless, does not show hi temps, just engine killer hi temps.

Did you blow out your oil cooler/lines, while rebuilding? If not, this may contribute to the higher level.

Motorads are white but not all white stats are garbage. Have a $25 Eurospare that has been fine. https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/...110-V8212.aspx
