Discovery II: How deep can it go?

RE: Discovery II: How deep can it go?
I guess the point I was trying to make is that the standard snorkle is not water tight unless you make it so.
And a gas engine will not run underwater unless you also make it watertight.
If water gets into your sparkplug wires/coil and it will short out the electricity.

Dielectric Greaseand seal the ECM that is just to sideof the windowwasher jugunder the hood.
The other reason that Disco I's are more likely to have water problems is that the the seals on electrical plugs are old and can let water in so with the Dielectric grease you stop the water problems,,,,,,,,,,,YOU MUST do all the plugs from the fuel pump forward.
The first time you go in the water you will find the electricalplugs that you missed!
For me its the desert,,lots of dust very little water but for the flash floods.

You are right, D1's, based on the position of the air intake tube are less prone to sucking in water and wasting an engine, bit, splash a little water on the ECU, in the engine compartment, and see how many days to get it to restart, if you are lucky.
Give ma a D2 any day.
Nothing personal Spike

I've got both a D1 and a D2. I'd definitely trust the D2 in deeper water than the D1.
That said, I have a snorkle that I've very carefully sealed. A tougher part to seal is the doors though. In the D2 you had better make VERY sure your door seals are good. The tranny ECU sits under the driver seat and even door seals that look OK can be shot.
This little episode resulted in 8"+ of water in the passenger front foot well...

I do nothing to my truck before driving in water upto the hood every spring.
I do check everything for water ingress once I get back home.
