Default Discovery II oil filter, will longer one work same as short one?

2004 Discovery II, 4.6 Litre engine: Recommended oil filter is short in length, while earlier Rovers used a longer filter. The longer one will still fit, with plenty of room to spare, on 4.6 litre, so will the longer one function same as recommended shorter one now used on 4.6? Example, K & N filter HP 3001 (the longer one) as used on earlier Rovers, such as 1991 3.9 litre Range Rover. K & N filter HP 2004 (shorter one) now used on 4.6 litre Rovers, such as Discovery II. I prefer the longer one, as it has more oil capacity, but does it perform same as shorter one recommended on 4.6?

I have used the K&N 3001 and the Mobil 1-301 for 9 or 10 years for better filtering.

It has been proven time and time again those filters do not filter any better than a WIX or Purolator oil filter.
The K&N oil filter is a Fram painted white, the Mobil 1 is for 15,000 mile oil changes, use a Mobil 1 oil filter and do normal service intervals and you are throwing money away.

Nothing wrong with using the K&N or Mobil 1 oil filters, just keep in mind you are wasting your money by over paying for the filters.

M1 filters are super good quality though. As for price, I get them free at Advance Auto when they have M1 on sale for an oil change special. My Audi takes 10 qts and the filter isn't sold at regular stores, so I buy the oil there and get 2 filters for every one change of that oil!

Nothing wrong with that, how often do you change the oil on your Audi?

Phil, you are so far off on these statements, go do a Google search for the last 2 oil filter performance test, both these filters were on the top side of both tests. As for your crazy statement saying a K&N 3001 is a fram painted white, where the hell did you pull that one from, both of these filters are made by the same company.

The FRAM PH8A = a cheap POS... Sorry paper end caps, half the media inside = POS.

If you care anything about your vehicle no matter what it is DO NOT USE a FRAM oil filter!!!!!!!!!!

The K&N, Mobil1, and WIX aren't even in the same league. Way better quality and if you don't want to spend a little extra on the filter that keeps your engine oil clean then don't go complaining oh my vehicle is a POS and the engine is a joke when you're penny pinching it with it's filtration system.

I've been using the larger 3001 size filters in all my LR's & Jeep's. Great filter size and K&N, Mobil1, and WIX are great choices.

Locally the WIX filter is only 1.00 less than a Mobil1.

Motorcraft used to make a decent filter, but they recently changed it and it's cheap now.

Bosch makes an 11.00 3500 model which is blue and reminds me of the K&N, Mobil1, and WIX. It's found at Wal-Mart.
