Default Discovery II (TD5) 2004 - Rear Door won't open from inside, WILL open from the outsid

Hello to all

I've googled this, and cannot find a solution or indeed another post that's the same - so sorry if I've missed it.

Our rear door has only ever opened from the outside. It opens fine from the outside. It also unlocks / locks with the central locking without problem.

I've just had to replace the rear windscreen wiper motor and arm, so thought I'd see if I could cure whilst the rear door card was off. I can see that the inner handle cable is connected to the latch. When I pull the handle, I can feel the cable being pulled and can hear that the latch is being "adjusted" internally. (BTW - I can confirm that the child lock is off - I have tried wriggling the child lock on/off, and when it's on, I can hear that the internal handle definitely does less to the latch - which is what I would presume it should do).

Has anyone else had this? It's not the end of the world, but it does mean that passengers in the dicky seats cannot let themselves out of the car which is a little annoying. As I say, can find plenty of threads about the rear door either not unlocking or not being able to be opened from the outside, but not this issue. The doors still apart, so was going to unbolt the latch and c/l actuator and remove to see if there's something really obvious that I can't see whilst it's all in place inside the door.

Would be dead handy if there's a common fix for this particular ****le.

Many thanks for any pointers

Im sure its the actuator inside wont connect. I had similar problem, it opens from inside and out but it wont lock. I can hear click when I lock/unlock but nothing happens. Never tried opening the unit since I got a replacement.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply - but I don't think so.

AFAIK - the actuator simply locks and unlocks the door. As stated, the door locks and unlocks without problem, as the door can ALWAYS be opened from the outside. Always.

It can NEVER be opened from the inside, despite the door being unlocked, and despite the same door being able to be opened from the outside.

Disable the child safety lock??? Did you check that. Only outside door open.

Try looking in the D1 Rave manual. May be same linkages and there are more details & illustrations.

Study the mechanical diagram in the RAVE. It's on page 946 of the pdf. It looks like there's a release cable that the interior handle operates with. Is that connected to the latch mechanism? The length of these cables can also be adjusted; if they're too long, they won't give enough travel on the actuator to unlatch the door.

Default Solved

SOLVED

It turned out, that the inner cable had stretched, and I uploaded a picture fix to another LR forum site. Basically, a small mod, using a very, very short amount of some bicycle outer cabling inserted at the end of the cable where it pushes into the plastic grommet at the inner door handle end, too up sufficient slack so that the inner door handle now releases the latch just fine.
