my Disco II on the highway has a bit of a "whine" (can't think of a better way to describe it). it's almost like it's rear end noise, but i don't think it is. I mean, it only has 44,000 miles on it. I was just wondering if it's normal since it's got the viscous coupling in the Tcase. My ZJ did it too. I thought it might be tires but it doesn't seem to change much on different pavement.

My Disco 1 has a bit of a whine. It almost sounds like a turbo, but much quieter. I think its just the way the gears are cut, I dont have any driveline issues--other than the drive to reverse clunk (which I can avoid 95% of the time by rolling the vehicle forward a few feet before engaging R, or rolling a few feet before engaging D, Ive gotten pretty good at estimating how much I need to roll in N before coming to a stop lol) and my rear driveshaft needs a new part, but its just the rubber coupling on D1's no big deal. The only way I would be scared of the whine is if it TOTALLY overpowered the rest of the noises made by the truck. I am pretty sure the rest of the responses will be like mine.

 

ya it's not too bad. i thought it was noisy tires, but it doesn't change when the pavement does, so i ruled that out.
