Does anyone know how many hours of labor for engine replacement.
I’m looking to pull the engine from my discovery which has low mileage and a blown chassis, and swap into a great chassis with a blown engine im looking to purchase. I’m curious at how much labor would typically be involved so I can have an idea on price. Identical trucks, 1999 4.0 in Oxford blue. I tried to search but couldn’t find what I’m looking for.
This should give you a good idea of what you're going to get into or pay someone else to get into: https://www.roverparts.com/resources...very-series-2/
Without knowing your mechanical skills...it's hard to say. Basically, you're pulling two and installing one. Me, just taking my time and everything going somewhat well...maybe a day pulling one (which is about five hours of actual work). Installing takes a bit longer and usually it's a day dropping it in and a day or less finishing it up and hearing it run.
Yeah, I can get them out in about 3- 4 hrs but I have done it several times. Back in takes a bit longer, great opportunity to do all of it though, starter, CPS, coils, wires, cooling system, etc etc.
When the engine is out of the better chassis, replace the engine mounts, and transfer case mount and seals, and transmission mounts.
Also, you may want to replace all the belt pumps as well, and do everything Extinct wrote. It' MUCH easier when the engine is out.
