What 3 cylinders did he replace? Do you mean pistons? I don't see that on the bill.

Labor rate looks favourable but the gasket and parts prices didn't do any favours. Check out the parts costs online for comparative prices. As Abran says, you didn't get ripped off but looks like you paid the full retail prices for the gaskets and parts and certainly no discounts there. I assume these were genuine LR parts.

In some cases better. Most are equal and a few are inferior.

Head gasket kit from Victor Reinz(German made and excellent quality) is under $200.

Bearmach and Allmakes are good, Britpart is very variable. LR genuine are usually good but are top dollar. Typically though, the only decent engine mounts are genuine LR whereas Britpart are invariably doomed to fail quickly. You learn over time where you can make savings on genuine and where not to.

I think he double charged you on some overlapping labor items. The receipt shows 5.3 hours of labor to replace the valve cover gaskets, that's already part of the head gasket job so no need to charge additional time. 3.9 hours labor billed to change the plugs and wires while the motor is already apart is a joke. The overall price you paid isn't too terrible but the way they billed the labor makes it look like they padded the bill.

Also a 90 day warranty sucks if you ask me.
