Doing a Major 100k service on my 01 Disco this month
I have a STI wires waiting to be installed and also did not decide on plugs. Amazon has a good deal on Bosch Platinum IR fusion, which doesn't need any gapping and I am considering getting them. I don't know how good or bad they are for our rovers. locally i can only get the autolite double platinum (2pks around $8 at walmart). I am thinking bosch platinum IR might be better.
Did you have secondary air on yours? If so did you have to replace the air injector adapters in the heads? I am getting ready for the head gasket job myself and just want to have all the parts. If anyone knows that would be great! Sorry for hijacking your thread for this
I know mike has been advocating for Bosch +4 and he has good experience with them, but I have been reading very mixed reviews. The Bosch fusion IR are actually exactly the same design expect for some added iridium, which is suppose to be better than platinum. MSRP on fusion IR is more than +4 and amazon have them around 4.30 cheaper than the MSRP, so I went ahead and ordered 8 of them. I hope I will not regret it.
Yes, I have SAI and I am going to try and reuse the adapters because they look to be in good shape. I know the RAVE says to replace them but I'm going to take a chance one this one. I do want to note that the RAVE does say:
Note: To release the adapter thread locking
agent and prevent damage to the cylinder
head, remove the adapters by alternately
loosening then tightening slightly.
so there needs to be high temp thread locker reapplied to the adapters before install.

Thanks for the advice! I was under the truck today and there is oil everywhere... Cant wait for my HG kit to get here. Kind of embarrassing to park in someone else's driveway. Im going to start carrying a bag of kitty litter with me. LOL
I really appreciate all the pics and advice on this project!

Wow, you did get all the gunk out, everything looks so much cleaner. Some body had pictures of the inside at around 170k or so here, who has been using mixture of rotella and castrol and his engine was like new. You might want to give it this treatment from now on.
This is where I finished last night and I'll post more after todays work.

Do You have any picture that will show the entire front of the engine?
