I just did most of mine. You don't even need any hand tools.
I have the driver side A-pillar finisher for sale if you want one. It's not hard to break those when installing, especially a used piece as the plastic mounting tabs are compromised and faulty from age and UV damage. So I bought a genuine model but before it arrived by mail I had already made a recycled piece work well enough that I didn't want to risk damaging anything while doing it over again.

Same thing with the drip rails. I pulled some from wreckers, bought some new. Started off using the 2nd-hand pieces and finally used the new parts where the used ones even cracked trying to get them on. That plastic stuff is really fragile with age so you can do like I did or buy all new ones and take your time hooking them in place. The corner pieces on the back door are the easiest to break and the long 1 going down the side is the easiest to get into place.

Any advice on pulling drip rails off without breaking them on a D2? I was hoping to pull some from a junker to replace mine, but very concerned about getting them off without breaking them?

You gotta practice, so you'll break one first. Always work with plastics when they are warm. Use a hair dryer :-)

A project for a later date, but thought about pulling all of mine OFF, prepping and painting with bed liner coating.
I could swear I got the idea from someone that had already done it, but dont recall where I saw it..........
