Yeah, you can do the job without it, and I'm a cheapskate and haven't bought one, but I can certainly see the advantage of having it. For one thing if I had one I might remove the shaft to grease it instead of lying under the truck to grease it. Hmm ... maybe I'll order one before my next oil change.
