Default Drive train problem

Hi.I hope someone can help me.
I have a 1998 Disco I with +-200000 km on the clock.It is a manual V8.
About 2 weeks ago it started making a clacking sound underneath the car.
I checked under the car and could not see anything broken. The front propshaft has a bit of a play on it.Able to turn it about 3cm either way.Is this supposed to be like this.
This only happens when I accelerate,if you leave the gas it quits down.
I also saw that if I engage the diff lock, the noise also stops.

How can I check if this is CV's,propshaft,U-joints or Transfer case?
Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Armand

Sounds like a bad u-joint. Mine did the same thing when my rear most u-joint was failing.

There should not be any movement in the u-joints. How often do you grease them, if not often then replace all 3 or 4 u-joints cause the rest are probably going bad from lack of grease.
