Or you can be a lot safer and just put the front axle up on axle stands. Then you'll be able to turn the front differential input to get everything to line up.

That helped. Finished yesterday. I used blocks to inch the car back until the holes lined up. Guessing by the looks of the old one, it was time to replace.

Yeah my way of having it in the ground & rolling it sounds dangerous, but I just found one of my 6 ton jack stands had actually broken the last time I used it & I caught it just before I was going to use it again for installing a lift kit..... Jack stands are great, but like anything else they can fail as well.
