driveshaft gaiters

Default driveshaft gaiters

1995 D1
Both driveshafts have a sliding joint. Mine lack gaiters, as shown in picture. Do other owners have these gaiters? How crucial are they?

I assume you mean the cover over the slip joint, if it is called a gaiter then I learned something, but yes, my '97 has them.
They help keep the dirt out and the grease in.
