Driveshaft ??'S
New to the forum, I own a 2003 D2 and have become a little worried about all that I have read about front drive shaft issues that pop up with out warning and cause huge damage to the transmission.
-How can you tell if you have greasable u joints??
-Is this something that a normal shop can take care of or is a LR specialist needed?
-What kind of cost is involved? Is a total new drive shaft needed?
Assuming this work is necessary exactly what exactly should I ask a shop to do? Just want to make sure I am preventing the worst possible scenario and not being taken fora ride....
On a side not have owned my D2 for two years now and it has been a dream...no major issues (knock on wood) I fall outside of the VIN range for oil issues so I am not going to worry about that issue, but the drive shaft seems to be more of a necessity to deal with.
Any help is appreciated!!

Crawl under your truck and feel around the double cardon joint at the back of the driveshaft, feel for grease nipples, they should be two of them.
Yes any shop can do it.
Will cost yoiu around $200.
Ask them to replace your u-joints on the front driveshaft with greaseable ones. Ask them to replace the centering ball too.
Once it is done grease it at every oil change and you are good to go.

If you have an 03, it did not come with the greasiable u-joints in the double cardon, hence it should be changed ASAP. If it fails, it can take out the tranny and or the t/case.
Find either a drive line shop or a tranny shop that is experienced with double cardons and have it rebuilt. If you can't find a shop to do it, consider a new one from Tom Woods for around $380, about half of what Rover will sell you one for.
Either way, do it real quick, or it can cost you dearly.

Pretty good coverage across the US. I'm in San Francisco, DiscoMike is in Coloado, Spike is up in Michigan, Darover is in Canada eh?, and Urban Panzer is across the pond driving on the wrong side of the road!!
