Hi All

I recently bought a 2003 Discovery and got the driving belt replaced at a local shop (shouldn't do it but needed to pass the stupid safety certification). Obviously the guy didn't do a good job as I counted a squeezing noice when I drove over 30mph and found the coolant levelis gradually lowered (I won't see leakings on the ground, but you smell coolant burned when you drive and park the truck and I need to add about a liter every two weeks to top the coolant level). I am wondering if the guy put the driving belt too tight and ended up slow leakings fromthe water pump. Being new to Discovery, can someone here help me on how to dignosis this and the procedures to adjust the driving belt tension and maybe how to replace the water pump.

You need to go back and find out what belt he installed. There is a belt tensioner that maintains the belt tension, pretty hard to mess it up.
Get that coolant leaked repaired ASAP.

 

The belt he installed was bought from a local Land rover dealer here so should be a right one. I'm just wondered if the tension was too tight as i used my hand to push the belt it felt so hard ( I am sorry I have no experience with the Discovery truck before, just to compare it with the belt on my Honda Accord it wasn't as tight as this much). How would I know if the belt is too tight or not?

As well, as I posted under the other topic, the truck is kind of shaking when I stop at a traffic light, and recently I got the service engine soon lights on (checked the gas cap which wasn't a cause) I'm now using 91 without ethinal (did added a couple of times regular 87before though but am not sure if that's the cause?)

I really couldn't find where the coolant leaks come from(no drops on the ground, just smell coolant when I drive and stop the truck. So how should I start to check for possible coolant leaking?

Unless he put the belt on wrong you cannot overtighten it, there is a spring loaded tensioner that keeps the belt at the proper tension.
You need to have the cooling system pressure tested. Take it back and have it figured out before you needa new engine.

You need to describe the shaking better. Is it the engine or the brakes? Does it do it as you are coming to a stop or after you are stopped?

 

Take it to a shop and have the cooling system pressure tested.

The shaking is from the engine, and it comes after I fully stopped.

 

You need mew spark plugs and plug wires. The shaking that you are getting is a really bad mis-fire, in otherwords you are not firing on all 8 cylinders.
