Question Dropping the Oil Pan on a DI, water pump "weeping"

Gents and Ladies, does anyone know if you can drop the oil pan on a DI (1999) without removing any other ancillary hardware? I have a nagging small oil leak coming off of the rear edge of the oil pan. I have tried tightening up the rear area bolts, no luck. The drip makes its way into the seam of the front bell housing inspection plate, not the round inspection hole on the bottom of the bell housing. It then runs down the inside of the inspection plate and makes its way out the weep hole on the bottom. It is driving me nuts so I thought that I would drop the pan, fit a new gasket, permatex and reattach.

Also, my water pump, ordered from British Pacific, lasted 15 months and about 10 miles before it started leaking from the weep hole, son of a gun! No I am out $100 and a couple of hours of effort to refit a new water pump. Any opinions on the OEM water pump from AB or the no-name brands from AB or British Pacific. When I talked to British Pacific, they told me that they would not cover the pump under warranty but would cut me a deal on a replacement water pump. Nice of them to offer, but I would rather pay full price and not have to fix it again in 12 months! Anyone have good luck with any particular pump?

Truck is running great, other than leaking from the weep hole and some very minor, but annoying oil leaks.....

Thanks for all of the help.

The only thing you will need to remove to remove the oil pan is the steering damper.
As for the water pump, it was a Pro Line brand wasnt it?

I am not sure if it is a Proline water pump. I need to check with British Pacific on Monday. Whatever it was it is a piece of junk. I will update the brand on Monday. Phil

Unfortunitly this is 100% true.
Nobody has any luck with aftermarket brand water pumps on these trucks.

my rather new and leaking water pump was a Proline. The one on its way from AB is an OEM. Cost me $145. I also picked up some gasket silicone, a new thermostat an gaskets and other realted gear. Phil

Finally got the water pump, thermostat and lower hose changed out. With the coolant and assorted parts, it was close to $300. $144 for the pump, $9 for the thermostat, $107 for the lower hose and $35 for the coolant. Throw in some RTV for good measure. With the heavy duty radiator the cooling system should be good to go for awhile. Is there a general thought on replacing the overflow resevoir as a maintenance issue? I have the white/tan overflow tank, not the black one. Anyone hear of tank failure while using the white/tan tank?

Phil

The black tanks are known to spilt at the seams, the white tank is the upgraded replacement.
It is now "tan" from age.
