I have concerns about installing a $600 electrical item under the truck where it is exposed to the elements, and it carries only a 1 year warranty. I have had enough experience with military vehicles to know that electrical, hydraulic and air actuated controls crap out at the least convenient time and that mechanical shifters keep on working. That's just my 2c, I believe in keeping things simple.

Search you local pick-and-pulls for a D1 or just be patient and keep an eye on eBay. I got my D1 shifter for $65 (including the entire linkage and the cost of shipping) last August on eBay.

I was looking into building a similar thing. How involved would it be? Do I just need a custom mounting plate for an actuator and wire it to a switch?
