Default Electrical Short Help

I have a 2002 Disco 2 and when I turn off the vehicle I lose all electrical power as if the battery was disconnected. In the time it takes me to release the hood latch and lift the hood, electrical power returns. But not always!

A little background that may be helpful - I recently had an issue with the vehicle going into limp home mode after letting the vehicle warm up for about 15 minutes on a -25 degree morning. This happend a couple more times, I took it to a shop to look at and they found nothing wrong - including checking out the 6 month old battery. The "short" when turning the vehicle off first occurred while this was happening.

The delayed response of turning the vehicle off, electrical power going away and coming back by itself seems like the behavior of a relay - pure speculation...

Any ideas where to start?

Thanks,
Zed

The weather is finally above freezing now - though is snowed last weekend! Looking for help on where to start trouble shooting - my problem persists (see prior post below).

The vehicle will operate fine, intermittently turn the key off and it will go completly dead. I see the cabin lights go out faster than normal after turning vehicle off and I know it's happened again. There are no lights, no power, can't lock the doors, nothing at all to any system. I'll wait a few minutes (or less) and the courtesy light will go back on again (as well as power to all other systems) and she starts fine. I'll have to reset the radio code, the time on the clock and I believe the trip odometer info is reset as well. The battery is about 6months old and holds a charge.

Any clues or ideas on where to start eliminating things?

Thanks.

Your battery cables or terminals are bad or dirty. Take them off and inspect them. You will likely find them corroded. Check both sides (the battery terminals and the fuse box/grounding point). Clean the attachment points and re-install the old cables if the are good, or new ones.
