Default Electrical-Turn signals and Gear Indicator

My Disco II I just got from the auction. The turn signals work fine when key is in position II but as soon as I start it they flash erratically and also the gear indicator lights flash along with simultaneous clicking of the relays under the dash. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did a search and all I came up with was the alternator but I have no charging problems.

Are the M and S lights in the cluster flashing too?

The flashing turn signals makes me think aftermarket alarm system.

No aftermarket alarm. The M and S lights in the dash work fine just the way they are supposed to. I am thinking that there is a short or loose ground that connects the signals and console gear selector lights.

By the way I am sorry I didn't mention what model I have. It is a 2001 Discovery II SE with the 5 in the vin as apposed to the 2 which most people have.

Try using a battery jumper cable from battery (-) post to the engine. Also follow black wire from the negative battery to be sure ground bonds to frame are good.

flashing M&S 90% of the time is battery/alt. or ground problem, the other 10% who know some have not been cured. Does the transmission shift threw all the gears when driving or is it just in 3rd?

same pageNo the indicator lights follow along with the shifter whether it be Park, Reverse, Neutral, etc. All gears work fine and lights of indicator follow correctly except the flashing erratically along with turn signals. The shift indicator lights also blink erratically on their own regardless if the turn signals are on. I am not talking about the M & S that are in the dash which work perfectly, I am talking about the selector indicators as to which gear you are in on the center console.
