Default Emergency Radiator Hose Question

Hello All,

Looks like my upper hose vent just broke. Was leaking, I poked it, then it broke. Just called the dealer for a new hose, $69.95 ouch!

The T in my system doesnt have the screw vent I have seen posted here before. Guessing that is why mine was built into the hose?

My question is can I temporarily cut the vent out and put a straght hose in there or will I be risking overheating?

Also, any suggestions on where to get a hose from, other than my local dealer at a reasonable price as none of the parts suppliers carry that hose.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Nick

BTW it is a 2000 Discovery

Was Just looking at my RAVE manual, they are calling it a "bleed screw" in the center of the hose.

Regards,

Nick

You can buy the newer designed replacement hose, not cheap but good, thru Atlantic British, probably also Rover Connection and DAP.
Don't try and cut up your old hose, nothing worse then going thru all that effort just to have the old part blow. Once you get a good new set of upper hoses on your truck, shout and I'll try and walk you thru the bleeding process.

I wouldn't try to bypass the bleed port. It is the only way to ensure you don't have air trapped in the system. Dexcool reacts very corrosively when exposed to air. The problems people have had with Dexcool is when they already have a problem.

I would get a good hose at ATB and know you replaced it right and won't have to worry about it anymore...

Guys thanks for your quick response!!!

Was going to Home Depo and thouggt to myself "are u crazy" (meaning me!!)
Then just drove straight to my LR dealer. Presently on my second engine, so I really don't want to replace it again.

I have the updated hose kit, should I follow the RAVE manual for refill or the procedures found here?

Thanks again guys!!! You truly help in ones confidence when dealing with a "touchy" vehicle.

Regards,

Nick

Found this in a search, big suprise it was posted by Mike

You have air trapped in the engine from some leak, park the truck with the front end high, let it cool off, open the bleed screw and the coolant bottle lid, fill theu the coolant bootle till coolant starts coming out the hole then cap of the bleed screw, fill the coolant bottle all the wau to the top and repeat it again 2 days later. mkae sure you only use dexcool and at some point you are then going to need to find your coolant leak before you over heat your engine.

Gonna go try right now...

Hey, any of you added an overflow tank to the system? Would be nice to be able to top things right to the top of the pressure tank then use the overflow like on a normal vehicle.

OK installed the updated hose kit on Saturday and topped of the system, took maybe twenty minutes.
So far so good, just had to add a wee bit of coolant yesterday. One of the easier upgrades I guess

Thanks again guys!

Nick

always nice to see people willing to do the work themselves and get a little closer to the vehicle. Good Job! It is normal to add a little coolant after having the system open..

I always run my coolant to the very top of the coolant bottle not the full mark, even on long idles while out on the trail it never throws any coolant, I suggest to everyone that they do this.
