Default Engine CPU Questions

Hello Gang

I have a 2000 DISCO 2 that I swapped engines in. The original had secondary air intake. The donor does not. Swapping the heads was not an option because they were destroyed when the original motor bit the dust. Here is the question. I have the donor engine running and driving but I am getting a check engine light because of the SAI. I left the orginal computer in the vehicle. I have the donor but was scared that the security may kick in if I swapped them. Any advice on this matter would be helpful. Or should I just live with the check engine light. Or what do I have to do on the security deal or is that not a problem.

You'd have to swap the engine computer and the body computer, unless you have somone that can resync the computers. If you choose to swap both, your odometer will flash. Also, if you live some place that does detailed inspections, you might not pass because you have different emissions systems than the VIN says you should.

Emissions is not a problem. Oklahoma doesn't have inspection

Where at in OK? If you are close to northwest arkansas, I could probably get your odometer to stop flashing, if you decide to swap both computers. Also, your key fobs are attached the the BCU, so you'd probably have to swap your key blades to the old remotes.

Would I be better off just keeping my original CPU. Everything works except it has a check engine light. Is there any complications with this?

Probably not any complications. If you have an OBD code reader that shows live data, you might be able to confirm that is goes into closed loop. If it does, and I assume it will, you are fine. Just the annoying check engine light.

Hey jafir

Thanks for all the info. I have a code scanner. I may just leave it this way for awhile and get everything running. Thanks again for the info.

so, you still have our SAI motor.
Let the motor still blow into the SAI pipes and sensor.
Put cotton or some such blockage up the two ends of the SAI pipes and keep the sensor connected. will probably trick it into thinking it is working.

Might be hard to fool over time, it also checks to see that O2 performance shifts. See attached pages from Bosch ECU manual. In other words, it does a static test and a performance test.

I can assure you that you would not be the only Rover rolling around with the CEL on, and an Ultra Gauge or other scanner might be handy to keep an eye on things.
