Default Engine flat spot / low rev stall

Hi all,

Have got a Discovery 2 2000. It suffers from low rev flat spot. When pulling off I have to increase the revs or else I get into a massive engine flat spot where the engine will suffer from no power at around 1000-1200 rpm. The car will jerk to a halt before during this flat spot then zoom off out of it.

Any ideas?

Is your check engine light on, if so go get the codes read at a local auto parts store and get back to us with the fault code numbers.
How many miles on the truck, what has been done tune wisw and what octane gas are you using?

Hi mike,

Thanks for your reply.

No engine light is on. Should I still get the ECU checked for error codes?

mileage is at 89,000. Its a diesel TD5 running on UK fuel; not sure what the Cetane Index is, sorry.

Sorry, I thought it was a gas engine.
Have you replaced your fuel filter, have you ever tried any of the fuel additives for diesels, my past experience with Mercedes diesel was very good.

Got filter replaced last year, but will do it again. Also will get an additive tomorrow.

I did have the head gasket and injector wiring loom replaced recently. Would that be a cause of the issue?

On my TDI Vw the EGR valve plugs the intake and
slows things.

You have a EGR from what I understand, I would start
with making sure that the intake is clean.

The timing belt could have slipped.
