Engine Knock When Warm
PM Disco Mike for advice on hypnotizing dealers to obey your every wish. I'd want things in writying from them at the least. Can't think of many oil additives recommended by factory to reduce engine noise....

Hey guys just to follow up. Got a call from the dealer - apprently they don't think its my sleeve. According to them not enough oil is getting to the rear left top of the engine and thats why it knocks. They said the oil pump is ok and the only solution is to replace the engine - $12k. Sounds pretty unreasonable to me. Any suggestions?

Also consider used engine swap. And there have been posts about DIY bolting the liner.

Having just rebuilt mine. I went with LA Sleeve Top hat.
I would also consider going with a Turner Eng. New block, Heads and front cover, oil pump assy. Kent cam. If $$$ allows. Would be about 7K plus incidentals. All for peace of mind.

pretty much immediate, unless it takes a few days to dissolve the gunk. Have you listened to the valve covers with a stick, stethoscope, or long screw driver? Usually if valve train noise you can hear it better, and even tell which end of the cover it is coming from.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that knocking is a loose sleeve.
You can go order a new front cover oil pump assembly and pop that on but you be right back here.
I changed oil and filter, then went with new front cover, lifters, cam which we found had some wear, also found that heads had been redone recently. Fired her up as soon as she warmed up KNOCK KNOCK.
Pulled engine had the flanged liners put in along with rings, valve seats, Kent cam, ARP stud bolts. During inspection found that "B" pistons were in place. So assume that engine had been completly rebuilt maybe except for the cam. Have had her on the road now for almost 2 months. Engine runs great just dealing with engine code.
As they say it's always something. 127K
I do love her!

Do the inline thermostat mod. if you can get your running temps down to 175, the block wont let go of the sleeve... my guess is your coolant temps are 220 when it starts making noise. ever hear your radiator fan come on?
