Default Engine Longevity

Trying to think ahead here, and am looking to start buying the components to build a 4.0L Rover V8, so that when mine dies, I'll have a replacement ready. Hoping that the current engine lasts forever, but I've got better chances of winning the lottery two days in a row. I've never built an engine, or even done a head gasket repair, but I want to. Been doing as much research as I can, and am thinking about purchasing a block with iron flanged liners from Turner Engineering. Given the perfect scenario, where I put everything together correctly, run top of the line fluids through it, and treat the engine right, how much more longevity/reliablility could I expect? Outside of the block with liners installed, any other drastic engine improvements reccomended? I've managed to find a few great deals on random parts, and am slowly building a collection. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

How many miles and what kind of shape is your current engine in?
If you do all the things you say will do to a new motor than it will probably last forever. Well not literally but probably longer than you'll need it or have use for it.

Drop an LS1 in that thing, new drive shaft and transmission. 400 HP Disco whambamthankyamam

Current has about 115k, and is running fine for now. I may be being unrealistic, but I plan to keep this thing "forever." Funny you mention the LS1, as my neighbor mentioned doing the same. Was actually considering it, until reading a few other threads about the difficulty in doing so. Obviously aside from cost of new engine and transmission, would probably need new diffs/axles, and who knows what else. Then the issue of getting the LR to "read" the new motor. I actually wouldnt mind putting something a little jazzier in, but money is an object. Here's to wishing though.

You could probably stretch the life of the motor you have now for a pretty long time. 115k is not bad at all. (It's a land rover!) If you're willing to get a gasket job and seals and such.
