Engine Rebuild Questions
Since the weather is starting to cool down I am looking to possibly do a rebuild on my 04 Discovery 2. It has the awful tick which has gotten worse over the last 80k miles. My main question is where would most of you suggest purchasing all of the parts for the rebuild, and which parts should I go ahead and replace? I plan on getting the block tested and the sleeves tacked in. I've looked around on Roverparts.com and it seems a bit pricey but then again most things related to my Rover are. On the upside I have used this truck as a daily driver from when I got it at around 30k miles it's now at around 160k. Never has left me stranded but it sure sucks down a lot of fuel.
I would replace Oil pump, depending on condition-cam/lifters, Rod and Main Bearings,Piston Rings, All Freeze Plugs with RTV sealant, All Gaskets/Seals.
You could shop around at the various on-line retailers and find the best deals. Although I would try and stay with OEM LR parts on the gaskets at the very least as I've ran into some issue with Aftermarket gaskets on the rear main and oil pan which I believe may be not be the same specs as OEM.
Check out Turner Engineering as even with the currency conversion and shipping sometimes they're still cheaper. Surely this is the case if you need a front cover.
