Default Engine Swap 2000 into 2004?

Hey everybody,
I have a line on a 2004 Disco SE7 for sale near me and I'm considering buying it as a project or parts truck as it's priced at what I think is a good deal even just for parts. (I have a current D2 SE as my daily driver).
The owner says that he swapped the original engine for a 2000 model engine in 2016, but he says his instrument panel lit up like a Christmas tree after that. Based on my research on this forum I had thought a 2004 for 2000 swap would basically be plug and play.
My question is: is that something that could be rectified with a 2000 model ECU or other fix? Or, would it likely cause actual mechanical issues as well, or just lights? The "new" engine doesn't have SAI so not sure if that would be causing issues.

I think that issue, combined with previous issues that sounded to me like your "typical" rover problems, got him frustrated enough that it has just sat in storage since then. The rest of the car is in pretty good shape, the engine bay is dusty but much cleaner (less oily) than my current truck's engine. the interior is in relatively good shape and it has some accessories and parts that I think alone might be worth what he's asking for it ($750). Tires are flat from sitting so long, and it will need a new battery and new keys. If I got it running it would probably be a candidate for a farm truck. But since it's not running atm I'm going in in with the assumption that it might just be for parts.

Thoughts, particularly on the engine swap issue?

Removing SAI will cause a check engine light to appear. 3 amigos are likely to be lit, but that would be unrelated to the motor. Any other lights would be of concern and I would want to scan and make sure of what codes are showing before committing.

That said, for $750 it's hard to go wrong. If the thing will run at all for that money, and if it's going to be a farm truck anyway, I see no harm.

SAI delete will cause no running issues, and no other issues should arise from swapping a 2000 4.0 into a 2004 which would have had a 4.6 originally. No ECU swap is necessary.

That was my thinking as well, but yeah not sure what caused the other lights to go off. Thanks for the input!
