Default Error Code - Cylinders 3 & 7 misfiring

Never saw this before. Under OBDII analyzer, my 2001 Disco II is reflecting cylinders 3 & 7 misfiring but the engine is running smoothly with no signs of misfire. I checked 3 & 7 and they're firing. I ran the check because my gas mileage is absolutely horrible and the engine seems to have poor response. The acceleration is not responsive in the context of going uphill and accelerating into overdrive, the response is almost entirely flat with only slow and gradual increase in speed as if the engine has no real power. Has anyone seen an error message similar to this and what else could cause a message like this to appear? What should true average MPG on a 2001 Disco II like this have.

I went through the upper engine in 2012 because of a head gasket leak that caused radiator pressure and blew a hose. New valve springs & valves, new rings, new fuel injectors, naturally new gaskets. Engine fired right up and runs fine. No problems manifested at the time. This latest OBDII message is puzzling. Doesn't seem to match the fact that the engine is running smoothly with no signs of misfire.

Thanks for any insight.

It just may be time for Coilpacks, wires and plugs. How old are the ones in the truck?

Just what was said above. Especially when it's an issue under load as you're describing. This is the classic scenario as you're describing it.

sorry for the delay. We've been out of town. The plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor are all a couple of years old at most. Not sure about the coil packs. I rebuilt the entire top engine. It runs fine with the exception of poor performance. I'll get into the coil packs and check them out. Thanks for the reply.

Easy way to tell is swap coils left and right, see if codes move.
