Default excellent handling..found out the hard way

heading home other night from the store...looked down for just a second to turn phone off speaker mode...looked up and I was about 25' from a stopped van. I was probably going 40mph. I hit the brakes and turned hard right into a subdivision deceleration lane...groceries slammed into floor. The DII handled like a nimble sports car but I never want to try that again.

Do you have ACE on that 99, it makes a huge difference during times like that.
Hope your groceries were OK.

Mine is a 2003 DII S (so no ACE). Last winter, I came around a blind corner at 45 (posted limit) to find an on coming school bus turning left 50' in front of me. (Actually, he started the turn when I was already in sight.) Hammered horn, jammed brakes to floor and wrenched wheel to right to turn down the street the bus was turning into. Fortunately, the bus driver woke up in time to stop and I managed to make a 90 degree turn at ~25 mph with the ABS hammering (on dry pavement).

Bottom line, these trucks will handle well if maintained and driven within their limits.

nope, no ACE..but one of the first things I thought about after the near accident is how great the rovers with ACE must handle...I want to test drive one now. Luckily I wasn't carrying any eggs or breakable groceries...might of broke some cookies though..haven't checked

Or tell your pit crew you're loose in and tight off turn 3 and you need a track bar adjustment.

I don't have ACE either but I can say that mine handles surprisingly well going thru the tight corners in the hill towns. Not as good as my Saab or Mustang but definitely better than my old D1. Must be the tires.

Mine's got ACE, it's awesome! I've suprised several passengers with it - nothing stupid ofcourse.

Driven several trips over windy mountain passes loaded with camping gear (also have SLS) and the family. Handles very well loaded.

Never driven one without ACE, your story is impressive. Congrats on dodging those bullets.

Another example of why our vehicles rock! Glad no one was hurt and all ended well.

Even safer than ACE is not using a cell phone while driving.
