Exhaust Manifold Studs
Does anyone know the size of the studs at the bottom of the exhaust manifold where the collector pipe attaches? There are three studs, I think the attaching nut is 1/2" or 13mm.
If you need the studs we have them there are about $.85 each
Okay, thanks. Planning to stick with studs - soon as I drill this broken one out. Man, they seem under-sized. I would like to meet one of the engineers of this vehicle... I think a lot of us would.
I know none of you seem to have the Td5 in the USA, but I do and guess what! Had to replace the exhaust manifold studs. My indie (independent mechanic) drilled them out and replaced them with bigger ones, drilled the manifold stud holes out to match, and the problem is now permanently sorted out. Parts - about ten bucks. Labor, on the other hand, about a hundred and fifty bucks. Still, not too bad for the potential agony. Not sure if these numbers would apply to each manifold on a V8, might be too pricey.
The stud threads are M8x1.25
Obviously the nut is M8x1.25 also, not 13mm
I can't remember the length.
To keep the nuts from fusing to the studs over time, when installing the nuts I use Never-Seez on the threads and Nord-Lock washers.

Thanks for the specifics on the studs. The 13mm was a reference for the wrench/socket size of the nuts used to attach the collector pipe to the manifold, which I believe to be correct.
