Default Was this a factory option or custom made?

Found this in an 02 on a junkyard trip. I've been wanting to get a similar one piece style center trim for a while but definitely didn't want to pay close to $150 for the Tuf Rok one. I've tried searching up some info on this but my only conclusion was that this could be a factory option for a higher trim level disco? Either way I'm glad I found it. Most likely going to paint it black because while it is in great condition for the most part those lines are cracks starting on the top and the "wood" looks a little cheap.

it's a factory option. one of my '04's has it. the other does not.

i think only the HSE trim D2's received the "skateboards".

Factory. At least two wood choices available...light and dark. You can still get NOS from england...

You might want to grab the transfer case selector boot because the wood version has longer retaining legs....

If I make it back to the junkyard before they scrap it I'll try grabbing the boot retainer. Either that or try modifying it to work with a normal one, we'll see what happens. People don't really even touch the rovers in the yards out here as I've gotten all kinds of good stuff off them in the few that have popped up every so often. Literally have went back after things I forgot or left a few days later and they're still sitting in the same spot.

I basically just ripped this thing out, so I didn't really look too hard at how it was secured in there, but if I'm not mistaken the center console tabs are wedged between these little metal brackets you see and the switch panel, which is riveted onto the wood itself. I can see the window switch panel tabs breaking off pretty easily like they're known for doing. Mine were already broken when I got mine, but this piece seems like it would be held pretty securely without them regardless, but I may rig something up to hold it in place if need be whenever I get around to installing this piece.

And if you guys will notice, it looks like it wouldn't be that big of a deal to cut the holes out for heated seat switches either if need be.

I like that it is in one piece.
