Default Fair price for '99 Disco II, 94000 mi?

My Dad and I are trying to work out a fair price for both of us on his '99 Disco II with 94000 miles that I'm buying from him. It is in San Diego, is super clean and all service records kept from new. It has not missed a service or oil change, and has had a few warranty repairs done, but has been very reliable for him. Always driven on the road, and is loaded with leather, cd changer, alloys 18" wheels, ACE, front brush guard, running boards, dual moon roofs, etc.

The going ASKING price on the 3 or 4 '99 Disco IIs I found in Southern California is $10500 to $12000 with similar miles. This seems way too high. Around the USA, I have seen the same year and similar mileage Disco IIs going anywhere from $7500 to $8500.

What is a fair price for such a clean Disco with known and trusted service history, and few bugs to sort out?

From the lack of responses, I will assume the answer is "Whatever the market will bear" - which is always the way it works.

It just amazes me how most of the Discos in the midwest and South from Florida through Chicago and into Minneapolis where I live are advertised for $4000 to $5000 less than equivalently equipped Discos with similar mileage from the West Coast.

You could perhaps equate some of this to the mild and dry climate taking less of a toll on them out West, but I think some of it has to do with the fact that people out there have more disposable income, so prices are just higher, especially on vehicles perceived as being "Luxury".

I go by edmunds, generally.

I just got my Disco II 2000 for $6100, although it has 139K miles on it, with ABS/TC/HDC lights on. But in good condition otherwise.

Book prices are just a guide line and most cars or trucks don't actually go for thier blue book value. My family owned car dealerships for about 15 years and I got a little bit of knowledge from the business. I would suggest that since you are buying out right from your father that you should go approx. 2000 less than the book value. There is no middle man that your father has to go around and it is a straight forward deal. I think you would both be satisfied.

He's offered it at $8k. I think that sounds like a fair deal for the condition, and below the local market value in San Diego.

I would pay $5000-$6000 for it, then again, it wouldn't be perfect as you say your dad's is. I can see someone else in my area paying up to $7500-$8000 (I buy cars cheap, go to auctions, know dealers, etc.). But again, if your/your dad's car is that perfect, is fully loaded, got 18" wheels and has been serviced, I think $8,500 is just fine. Not to mention you can always wine and complain to your father later on if something breaks, in itself an additional benefit....
