Default Fairly priced coolant to mix with Pride XL-50?

Hello peeps, my disco 2 has been running pride XL-50 coolant from the previous owner.

https://paulbhardware.com/antifreeze-coolant-orange-50-50-pxl50

Problem is, the disco loses about a quart of coolant every gas tank
or so. These 4 quart coolant jugs are 20 bucks a pop from the gas station, this is adding up quickly.

Any better solutions that will mix with this to keep her topped up? Should I get undiluted coolant and distilled water? Something that might slowly improve the system as I top it off perhaps????

Thanks all!

Topping it up like you’re doing is only a very short term solution, really not much more than to get you back home. You need to figure out where the coolant is going and fix it.

@ahaussmann123 You are losing a ton of coolant, a quart every tank of gas is a significant leak. You need to find to find out where it is going

Thats a pretty significant leak. I'd be looking at how to fix it rather than what to top up with. Try to identify where you are losing coolant. Check the radiator end tanks, heater core, cracks in the reservoir, hose clamps, T-pipes etc.

Is there any significant bubbling in the reservoir or is your oil milky or frothy? Is there white smoke coming out of the exhaust? If so you could have a blown head gasket.

So I put in coolant dye, seems to be coming out of the weep hole in the back of the case mostly. I thought it was the water pump maybe but not if it’s leaking from there? I wonder what is there…

no bubbling in radiator, no smoke. I’d be hard pressed if it’s a head gasket. I had a mechanic say the leak was the head gasket, “that’s where it weeps from” - but I don’t believe him he was pushing for a full rebuild he wanted his 5k.

It’s weird because I get no puddles under the car, no smoke in the exhaust, zero contamination in the coolant, but I do lose a significant amount when I drive. Especially on long trips.

im gonna keep topping it up in the meantime, I only drive once or twice a week and she runs great… so any advice on coolant to add would be appreciated along with tips on how to find and fix the leak because consumption has gotten worse 😂😂
