Default Falken Wildpeaks cracking, found this today

Check this out. 2000 mostly stock ACE/SLS truck.

Left Rear Tire

4 mos old, 1500 miles including 2 pretty lightweight Oregon off-road adventures and puttering around the neighborhood (nothing that should cause a tire to crack)

Strange for sure. Hopefully you got them from a reasonable tire shop and they should take care of it.

Check the date codes?

I'd be back at the tire store.

Wow! I've had three sets of these and never had an issue. I'd be back for a warranty replacement tire as well.

In portions where the cut is only at the protuding 'ribs' allows the doubt of the cut being caused by unlucky rolling next to a sharp edge, perhaps bar bed wire...

Definitely a defect in the tire, not something that cut it externally. Apparently they're going to warranty replace it next week.

Googling this I found no other instances of these tires cracking like this - hopefully just a random thing.

Oh - it's leaking air slowly through these cracks, the tire is down 5 psi every morning in the cold weather if I don't air it back up.

Art, I bought a set of 5 Falkens, and all were build date 2120 (21st week of 2020). The replacement I just had put on was 3020 (30th week of 2020). The other 4 tires have no cracking. I just checked them all again this morning.

The tire dealer did do this via warranty, took awhile to get the tire (unsure why but this size 265/60/18 XL) is now sold out everywhere online. One thing I did notice... Tire Rack sells these but they are not XL rated. So don't buy those for our Rovers.

Tire dealer said they had specific instructions from a Falken technical rep about returning the used tire to them via Fedex for examination, so it sounds like Falken will be at least aware of an issue if there are any issues with the lot.
