Okay . . . I wonder if anyone could offer some pearls of wisdom about removing the fan clutch from my old water pump. The nut is apparently frozen hard to the hub of the pump. I did notice that what amounts to a glorified spanner wrench is available for this purpose and it surprisingly only costs $49.00 to purchase. Wow, what a bargain; a tool that can only be used for one specific purpose and its price is only inflated a modest 800%.

Anyway, I've tried penetrant sprays and some hefty torque to no avail and I'm about to try a little focused heat to the nut to try and loosen it but I'm concerned because the clutch is heat-sensitive. Anyone know if this is okay or not recommended?

My close-approaching alternative is to replace the clutch, the fan blade and pump pulley for about $388 to simply overpower the frustration. I know for certain that money will resolve the problem almost instantly, but thought I'd remain calm until no other option is available.

You can also use a strap wrench or make a strap wrench out of a old serp belt.
