If you get the ECM and BCU from the same car, you'll most likely be able to start it. Your remotes won't work and your odometer will blink. Also VIN might not match if they check that kind of thing for emissions where you live.

I have a hawkeye scanner and I was able to turn off the blinking odometer and sync the keys (with help from a person on the forum who was able to get me my codes from land rover) on my 1999. I couldn't care less about the VIN being wrong.

I think sometimes the software in the BCU gets kind of locked up. I went for a few months without my keyless working on my 2003. Then later I went in to change a setting in the BCU (maybe for my fog lamps or something unrelated) and after that my remotes started working again.

Do you still have this scanner? And can you use it to wipe a functioning bcu from a 99 disco 2 so I can replace my bad one?

I have a scanner, unfortunately you have to have the computers together to sync everything. I don't have a D2 anymore or I'd say you could send me everything and I'd attempt to sync them up for you.
