Default Fender Flare Removal... Again.

Hey everyone. So, I removed my fender flares on my '03 which a lot of people seem to do. I figured, "hey, this will be quick and easy and it will make my truck look better with little effort". I was wrong. I got the fender flares off with no trouble. Heated them up and ripped them right off. Then I tried to remove the glue. Son of a b*tch, that stuff sticks. I've tried Goo Gone, heat, ammonia, gasoline, pressure washers, multiple plastic scraping tools, and several combinations of the afore mentioned items and it will not come for the life of me. I'm nearly to the point of sanding and painting the flares to put them back on, but I figured I'd give this one last go and come ask for help. So, any ideas, chaps?

Acetone?

Paul Grant or Abran will know. They remove those all the time, to sell.

3m makes a buffing wheel that is specifically designed to remove adhesive that is left over. I have had good results with that also goof off seems to work pretty well but is toxic and can eat through the paint

Would acetone (nail polish remover is 100% acetone) work better than gasoline? I would think that the gasoline would be harsher on an adhesive than acetone, but I might pick some up and give it a shot anyway.

I'll look for that buffing wheel and the goof off. Thanks abran!

Edit: Found it. $30 is a little steep, but its no more than paint would cost for the flares. Less probably once I include sand paper, primer, clear coat, and that expensive automotive double sided tape.

I did the same and got no help from my considerable arsenal of chemicals and a heat gun. The wheel is just a big eraser. It works pretty well.

There is a 3m adhesive remover. I bought it. It doesn't work.

Alex I am sure that a guy who can construct an exhaust out of vice grips doesn't need this info but for others, the eraser gets pretty hot so you want to keep it moving or it can permanently smudge the paint. Ask me how I know...

What isbehind the fender flares? .... does anyone have a photo or can describe the wheelarch behind them. Sounds funny but I haven't ever seen one removed as yet although two of mine were replaced by the main dealer when new because they ended up like sandpaper after a year. I'd be grateful for any info.
