Filled up with high test and lost 3.9 mpg!!! Has anyone experienced this?

As far as I know Seafoam is not full of alcohol.
Add one can to the gas tank next time you fill up.
Do this once a year if you want.
As long as you use good gas you dont need a fuel injector cleaner.
Shell gas has more cleaners in their gas than any other brand right now.
So to get things started use one can of Seafoam and forget about it.
Unless you stop using Shell or BP or Chevron.
Cheap gas is just that, cheap.

Thanks Spike. I will do this tomorrow. I am also going to give her the 60k treatment that's on here. That should help things too. Gonna have to figure something out to get the oil drain plug out though. Somebody rounded it off dang it and I cant get a socket large enough that have the teeth in them for removing rounded off nuts. Anyway thanks again for the advice.

You will need to get a new drain plug and you will have to either get it from the dealer or order it online.
Then you will need to buy a 1 1/8" combination wrench.
You cannot get a socket onto the drain plug.
Quick lubes use Channel Locks to remove the drain plug because they dont have a wrench that big so that is why your plug is rounded over.

Thanks spike. Dang quick lube guys. I knew I was gonna have to get a new one or drill and tap the old one but I didn't know what size wrench I needed so thanks again! I love this site. I am learning alot and very quickly. If I just had unlimited funds I could do some awesome things to my rig with the help I have gotten on here so far.

Here is a question while on the suject of gas, I use shell but I recently found out that there is a station around me that doesn't put ethenol in their fuel, everyone else is 10%, which is the new allowable amount in NC. This has resulted in me looseing about 2 miles to the gallon. So would it be better for me to run the no ethenol fuel and maybe an additive, which is an off brand or stick with shell. also the off brand is over the sc state line so its usually about 6 cents cheaper a gallon.

Here in NY most stations are carrying 10% ethanol , fortunately for me I have an independant station a block away from home that sells fuel without ethanol. After doing several mileage tests, I am getting an extra 30-40 miles per tank by using the non ethanol fuel.......and I have talked myself into believing that the engine even "sounds" better.

my family and i own 4 sunoco stations in nj the gas has 8% ethenol but sunoco has put extra detergants in the gas to compensate also my father sits on the counsal for sunoco corp. and i can tell u guys if u want to support our troops and our country dont buy from shell they buy the most barrels of oil from the middle east out of any brand gas station.sunoco and hess do not buy oil from the middle east also like the wise man spike said earlyer if u buy ur gas at wawa or some other convience store it is pretty much the worst gas u can buy because of the refining process they use i wouldnt put it in my lawnmower

I don't think I did answer my own question but I think I'll have too try it and see what kind of mileage gains I can get, if any. But wouldn't an increase in mileage indicate a better burning gas which would ultimatly mean a better running, cleaner engine reguardless of the brand. I'm just bouncing ideas off you guys. 40 miles more per tank is roughly 2 more mpg. 15,000 miles/13mpg=1154 gallons a year x $3.00 a gallon=3461 bucks a year. 15,000/15mpg=1000 gallons a year x $3.00 a gallon=$3000 a year. Are you following? If I calculate the mile extra I drive to get the nonethenol gas, 1000gal/21 per tank=48 tanks per year x 10 mile out my way 20 round trip=952 mile extra a year. not to mention the $0.06 less per gallon. 15,952miles/15mpg=1063 gallons per year x 2.94= $3126 per year. $3461-3126= $335 a year savings. -24bottles addative x $5=$120
Wait I own a land rover
but seriously, doesn't better gas milage mean better running and longer lasting.

You never mentioned in your original post that you are XX amount of miles from the station that you feel has the cheaper more efficient fuel. That aside I am not sure you need 24 bottles of additive per year. If I was interested in better milage and saving a few bucks (which I am) I would go with the cheaper more efficient fuel. That is what I meant when I said you had answered your own question.
I find it hard to believe that there has never been a bad tank of gas purchased from the big name gas stations but I do feel that it is more likely to happen at a discount station. Bottom line is my particular experience with the loss of mpg is with a 2000 DII with 100k+ miles. It had been getting 15mpg CONSISTENTLY and dropped to 11.1mpg from one tank, I ran a bottle of Gumout and it cleared up. A loss of mpg is not all that uncommon with any vehicle and I feel that this post ( like so many others ) became overly analyzed .
