That isn't a bad price for these pos. Unfortunately you do not have a good core to give them.

Liners are not too costly, turner sells those too, but what gets expensive is you have to have the block cut to fit them and the block cracks welded up.
I know...the new ones have o-rings but, I wouldn't spend $1500 parts and labor putting liners into a cracked block that's been welded up.
That's just me... If I were going to do that I would just buy an already top-hatted block from one of the companies that have been doing that for awhile.
I wouldn't trust just any machine shop with that. I mean just any local machine shop and anywhere else you have shipping costs to factor in also.

I guess if this guy does a $1500 tophat exhange and he is subing the work out to LA Sleeve, what would LA Sleeving charge for an exchange?

Yeah Abran, you need to get in the top hat block biz if they are local to you.

Really! I contacted Darton sleeves who make Turner's sleeves, and they told me they have an exclusive contract and can't make sleeves for anyone else. There is also a place called LAsleeve, but I have not heard anything about them.

Los Angeles Sleeve Co., Inc.

I might have to give them a call.

If we could get a group buy together I could go and negotiate with them.

I'll test one from your first run...and give great reviews. No charge!

ok so deciding what to do...that's where im unsure

what exactly are my options?
  • replace just engine block
  • buy a drop in engine
  • re-wok current block to fix crack
  • engine swap
  • scrap the whole truck (i hate to even mention it...)

i would rather not spend $4000-$5000 on a new engine.

what exactly would swapping to another style of engine entail?

if i went that route am i still looking at $4000?
