I agree...get another block. Check with Paul Grant or Abran and see what they've got.
Or check with Abran and see if he may be able to get you a good deal on a top-hat block direct from LA Sleeve. He's local to them and may be able to buy two or three at a time and get you a deal that you couldn't get over the phone with them? I guess I shouldn't be volunteering his services, so you'd have to check with him on that.
Whatever you do, build it up right, if you get a guaranteed good bare block, get all of the prep work done, pressure tested and spend the extra bucks now putting it back together with good parts, you won't have too much more in it than if you bought a used engine from a junk yard that may turn out to be a POS.... at least if you build the engine you will know what you have.
If you like your truck and it's not ragged out or rusted out and you want to keep it, it's worth it.
I wouldn't fool with trying to put a different type of engine in. That's a challenge for even those who work on these all day every day.

Do not fret. With a little research this issue can be fixed for a couple hundred bucks if you absolutely don't want to drop several grand on a top hat solution.
I picked up an 04 Disco earlier this year in prime condition for 2k, but knowing it had a slipped liner. Did the research. Then picked it up.
Later found out it was a slipped liner AND a cracked liner wall after pressure testing. SO, I was in the same boat asking the same questions.
I found a good pressure tested block ON THIS FORUM for $100. Got it shipped up to me for a few bucks. Tested out great.
So, even though it tested 100%, I pinned the liners, and then when I fire her up I'm going to run a ceramic sealer through the engine cooling channels and make sure all the little nooks and imperfections are sealed up. Then I'll flip around and install the new cooling system as to not coat the new radiator, tstat, and hoses.
I'm froogle and I'm confident I put together a reliable engine back into the Disco without breaking the bank.
